Assassination Attempt Foiled

And thank God for this good news:
Federal agents have broken up a plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or decapitate 102 black people in a Tennessee murder spree, the ATF said Monday.
Reprehensible, disgusting, and against every fiber of my being. Hang 'em high, I say. But what if they were nabbed in Bush's unconstitutional domestic spying program? Will the ACLU be calling for their immediate, unconditional release, as they do the equally vicious terrorists at Guantanamo?

Dispatch fromt the Tolerant Left

We placed a McCain / Palin yard sign in front of the house a week ago and it was stolen the second night. But we count ourselves luckier than this guy:
Armstrong discovered the damage to his 2006 Lexus about 8:30 a.m. at his Sand Key condominium at 1400 Gulf Blvd. Clearwater police and Armstrong said someone etched obscenities and "KKK" into the paint, burned several areas of the car with cigarettes, set the flag on fire on his hood and may have urinated on the vehicle. Officers and Armstrong think the car was singled out because of its political stickers, including one reading "Nobama."

"This is definitely a hate crime," said Armstrong, a 41-year-old physician.

Police estimated damage at $4,500. Police classified the incident as "criminal mischief/hate crime" and said it appeared "to be politically/racially motivated because the victim affixed a bumper sticker supporting the McCain campaign as well as an anti-Obama bumper sticker."
I guess celebrating diversity and tolerance only extends to people that agree with you politically.

It could be worse

Last weekend, we put a "McCain / Palin" yard sign in front of the house. Not a big wood-framed sign, just a little wire-framed job. It was "unilateraly removed" by unknown parties on the second night.

This is worse:
A St. Cloud man, and self-proclaimed John McCain hater, was arrested Wednesday for putting bags of dog poop in the bed of a pickup truck with McCain-Palin stickers. [...]

David Vandelinden, 45, of St. Cloud was identified as the suspect, and admitted to placing the dog poop in the truck because “he hates McCain.”
This behavior from a 45 year old man?? Charming, this liberal tolerance, isn't it?

A long time ago, after a lenghty discussion, I said to a good friend, and committed leftist, "The difference between your politics and mine is that, if elected, my philosophy would demand I relinquish power and yours would demand you acquire much more." He agreed with me. With that in mind, here's Mike Hendrix:
Joe the Plumber is us. Bill Ayers is them. And we’re going to have to fight, quite possibly literally, to keep them from destroying us. All “us” really wants is for “them” to leave us the fuck alone — which they cannot and will not do. Because they are convinced, beyond all reason, beyond all argument, that they know better. Messing with us, dominating us, ruling us, silencing us, stifling us, strangling us, with all the power they can give to relentless, expansionist government, is what they live for. It’s what they are. It’s what they do. They can’t have us walking around loose, with our guns, our religion, our patriotism, our freedom, our belief in the superiority of our way of life. It negates everything they believe in. And it, and we, cannot be allowed to succeed or fail on its/our own merits. Nothing can. Ever.

Jeez, I just summed up seven years of blogging in one paragraph, at two in the morning.
The left attacks Joe the Plumber, who had the audacity to question Obama's tax increases:
"Joe the Plumber" isn’t a plumber — at least not a licensed one, or a registered one.

A check of state and local licensing agencies in Ohio and Michigan shows no plumbing licenses under Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher’s name, or even misspellings of his name.
Ace of Spades has an interesting question:
Remind me again: Why is the media "vetting" a plumber who asked a question, rather than a Senator who answered it?

Update: John McCain, at a campaign rally, has picked up the ball:
Last weekend, Senator Obama showed up in Joe's driveway to ask for his vote, and Joe asked Senator Obama a tough question. I'm glad he did; I think Senator Obama could use a few more tough questions.

The response from Senator Obama and his campaign yesterday was to attack Joe. People are digging through his personal life and he has TV crews camped out in front of his house. He didn't ask for Senator Obama to come to his house. He wasn't recruited or prompted by our campaign. He just asked a question. And Americans ought to be able to ask Senator Obama tough questions without being smeared and targeted with political attacks.

Japanese Banks in Trouble

I received an email today with this alarming news concerning the Japanese banking system:
Following the problems in the sub-prime lending market in America and the run on Northern Rock Building Society in the UK, uncertainty has now hit Japan.

In the last 7 days, Origami Bank has folded, Sumo Bank has gone belly up and Bonsai Bank announced plans to cut some of its branches. Yesterday, it was announced that Karaoke Bank is up for sale and will likely go for a song, while today shares in Kamikaze Bank were suspended after they nose-dived. Furthermore, 500 staff at Karate Bank got the chop and analysts report that there is something fishy going on at Sushi Bank, where it is feared that staff may get a raw deal.
Har har har. I'll be here all week, folks.

Former Senator Fred Thompson on why it was so satisfying to see Sarah Palin admirable performance:
One of the reasons I feel so good for her, just as a human being, is I have never seen anybody undergo the ridicule, the slanders and the lies, and the blogosphere and what they’re doing, and breaking into her private e-mail, rumors and things about her, and now, most recently, belittling her, taking little snippets of interviews and laughing at her and satirizing her. Those people ought to be ashamed of themselves, if they’re capable of shame, because they’ve proven that what they were doing does not represent who she was and who she is. Thank goodness, just as she said, that this was an unfiltered event for an hour and a half. She could stand toe-to-toe with Joe Biden, who’s been around for all these many, many years, and basically take him to the woodshed.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.Walter Mondale's opening statement in the 1976 Vice Presidential debate, 32 years ago:
I believe that most Americans would agree on the problems that this country faces and that the next - and which the next administration must solve. They include the need once again for an economy that works. The economy today is in very, very bad shape - the highest unemployment since the Great Depression, 50 percent higher than when Mr. Ford took office; raging inflation, with the latest uh - wholesale price indexes once again raising the specter of double-digit inflation. The purchasing power of the average American has slipped so much that it is now the equivalent of the purchasing power in 1965. It is not getting better. It is getting worse. All the leading indicators now point downward, and stock investors are now losing confidence and over $50 billion of value has disappeared from the stock market in less than a month. We need a government that works, and we need a government that cares, and once again we have to get back to work on education, on health, on housing, on the environment, on energy; and we need a foreign policy that once again reflects the values and the beliefs of the American people. This will take leadership, and we need leadership, too. The Republican administration, the Republican party has had eight years to solve these problems. All of them have gotten worse. The Republican ticket does not offer new plans for their solution but is engaged in a frantic effort to defend the past. This nation desperately needs new leadership. The Carter-Mondale ticket would offer a new generation of leadership dedicated to solving the problems which I have listed, and that is the basis of our appeal.
Well, the Democrats may be full of hopey changiness, but that playbook sure hasn't changed much.
