Merry-go-rounds go twirling out of favor
This article documents the disappearance of merry-go-rounds from public parks:
“The most common reason that parks, pretty much everywhere, have fewer and fewer merry-go-rounds is usually the liability issue,” Spencer said. “But a lot of people like merry-go-rounds, so it is kind of unfortunate.”We called them "whirlygigs" where I grew up. When they installed one at the pool where I worked, the lifeguards quickly dubbed it "the death bug," because so many kids were getting hurt.
