Say What?

Here's a curious formulation from our local newspaper's website:
VIRGINIA BEACH - A car this morning plunged into an icy canal off Susan Constant Drive, near 62nd Street at the North End, trapping a woman driver inside.

Rescue workers pulled the woman out of the car more than an hour later. They administered CPR and took the woman to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. She was pronounced dead at 11:10 a.m.

Police did not identify the woman or release her condition. Neighbors said she was elderly and lived alone.
One wonders what further information could be released about the condition of a dead person.
