Three years ago, Mitzi Nichols of Virginia Beach donated a kidney. No big story there, except that she donated it to a stranger, giving Calvin Saunders a new life.
When I see the difference it made it his life,” Nichols said, “it makes me want to help everyone get off dialysis.”On Tuesday, Mitzi collected a $500,000 prize from the Virginia Lottery. And what does the gift shop cashier plan to do with the money? Amongst other things, she is going to pay for Calvin Saunders car repairs and visit her husband overseas during his upcoming Navy deployment. The whole article can be found here

Too true, Hot Chick. We here at the Pool relish the opportunity to temper the sarcasm and whining when we find stories like this.
Mitzi Nichols is the best friend I've ever had...she is truly a one-of-a-kind person. I know it's cliche that no one deserves what she was given more than she does but it's true in Mitzi's case. In all the time I've known Mitzi (since high school, class of '78), she has ALWAYS given. She's outgoing, honest, friendly and truly grateful for everything she's ever had. I'm proud to be her friend and I'm truly thrilled that she won this jackpot...NO ONE DESERVES IT MORE!!!

Mitzi, your story in the Pilot was the highlight of my week. Amongst stories of drug busts, war, and corruption, yours was a breath of fresh air. I don't have many readers here, but I hope it got out to some that don't get the Pilot. God Bless You.
